I Saw You

I saw you today
sitting with your friends
and I also saw
your eyes, your hair, and
your smile.

Only if I could be there
and say hello for I
wish to know the courtyard
behind your eyes and
be able to drink from your
sadness and joy.

Then humbly enter the hallway
graced with your velvet hair
to stroke such specialty
and breathe in the petals
of peaches and lavender.

Then finally enter the throne room
illuminated by your gentle smile
that sets a flame in myself,
a longing to be anointed
a prince in your kingdom.

But my mere pauper’s dream
dissipated as I watch you leave
unaware of my gaze.
